Serving the Community

He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.  - Micah 6: 8

Giving to others through outreach is at the core of St. John’s mission and ministry. We invite you to joyfully participate in the giving opportunities St. John’s provides. Come join the giving and receive God’s blessings of caring for others.

We give out non-perishable food bags on Thursdays from 11-1:00. Contact our Outreach Coordinator to learn more or come to the side door of the church for a food bag.

If you have an immediate need that you feel as if our church might be able to help you with, please contact us at 404-761-8402.

St John’s Outreach Ministries

Food Bags

We hand out food bags to people in need in the Tri-Cities area 1 or 2 times a week. This is handled by volunteers of St John’s to purchase or donate to our pantry and volunteer fill the bags with a variety of items that require no refrigeration and can be easily eaten.  Sanitary items when available are included such as soap, tooth brushes and toothpastes and wet wipes. We also invite our friends who receive food bags to join us for Wednesday Night Suppers.

Urban Recipes

St. John’s Episcopal Church is pleased to announce our partnership with Urban Recipe.  St John’s is sponsoring fresh fruits and vegetables purchased directly from farmers.

Urban Recipe's Cooperative Model…Urban Recipe’s food co-ops for low-income families provide a unique alternative to many traditional food-centered ministries. Under our model, each family we serve becomes a member of a 50-family food co-op that meets every other week and is convened completely by the members themselves. Because of the consistency and sense of ownership the model offers, co-ops are created to provide food security for those in need have become a place where relationships are formed, dignity is affirmed, and community is strengthened.

Emmaus House

A mission of the Diocese of Atlanta has served their communities in multiple ways.  St John’s has traditionally supported a toy drive for Christmas Gifts for those they serve.

The holiday season has always been a special time at Emmaus House. For decades, parishes, friends, and organizations have donated Christmas gifts for more than 500 children in Peoplestown each year. This year (2023) we are collecting gifts for children 13-18 years of age. To join in, click here for more details. Thank you for your continued generosity and for helping to make the holidays brighter for a community in need.

Holy Comforter

Founded in 1893, Holy Comforter Episcopal Church, in the heart of Atlanta, seeks to restore all people to unity with God & with each other. St. John’s takes meals to Holy Comforter and supports them financially.

Family Life Ministries in Hapeville

The mission of Family Life Ministries is to assist those most in need in our community with food, hygiene items and basic life necessities such as toilet paper. Founded in 1982 and supported by private donations, our staff and volunteers are tireless in their efforts to assist the most needy in our community.  We assist people in the Atlanta Airport area in a variety of ways. For those in need, we can help by providing food, personal hygiene items, household items, and various other physical necessities. We also assist those in need by connecting them with other community resources that can help them with job placement, locating housing, and obtaining medical care, to name a few. Clients complete an intake application and are thoroughly screened for eligibility through local agencies and sources. After screening, clients are helped on the basis of the need up to three times per year. Family Life’s mission is to meet the needs of those who fall between the cracks of society. The poor, the homeless, the underprivileged.
